Sightseeings on Flores Island in Indonesia
The Small Sunda Island Flores impresses with its scenic diversity and beauty. Spectacular volcanoes with colour changing crater lakes, spider web paddy fields, ancient villages, a jungle of nutmeg, clove, cashew, kapok trees and smallholder coffee and cocoa plantations on lush green hills make a Flores country tour an unforgettable journey. There are also lonely beaches with a colorful underwater world.
Flores, located off the beaten tourist path, has everything to offer for an unforgettable dream vacation.
Mystical Volcano Kelimutu
Kelimutu, with its 3 colored crater lakes that often change color drastically, is one of the main attractions in East Flores. The lunar landscape of the craters is believed by locals to be a haunt of spirits.
It is possible to visit Kelimutu as part of a day trip or short trip from Maumere or Ende, or as part of a multi-day Flores trip
Traditional Ngada Villages
Even if Flores is predominantly Catholic, there are well-preserved traditional villages, where megalithic cultures are still alive today. These villages are isolated nestled between two volcanoes Gunung Inerie and Gunung Deru. They have a particular form of vernacular architecture with shrines for male and female ancestors (Ngadhu and Bhaga) in the center of these villages. Animistic rituals and ancestor worship characterize daily life to this day.
The villages Bena and Luba are visited during a classic Flores tour. Visiting other more isolated Ngada villages like Desa Guru Sina, Desa Tololela, Desa Belahragi involves trekking and you can also stay overnight in a traditional village if you wish.
The ancient village of Wae Rebo
Isolated in a magnificent mountain landscape in the Manggarai in West Flores, the old village of Wae Rebo has been preserved with a unique architecture. It is only accessible on foot. People still live here as they did hundreds of years ago and traditionally harvest and process the best Arabica coffee. No mopeds, no electricity, no cell phone signal, just peace and quiet and untouched nature.
Snorkelling - Diving - Island Hopping
Flores and Komodo is one of the best diving spots in the world because of the unique and varied underwater world. You can already discover the fascinating underwater world while snorkeling, so boat trips should not be missed on a Flores trip.
Snorkelling is available at Komodo National Park, Maumere Bay and the 17 Islands Marine National Park in Riung on the north coast of Flores.
Prehistoric Komodo dragons
The Komodo dragons, the largest living lizards in the world, can only be seen in the wild on the islands Komodo and Rinca west of Flores. Both islands and a number of smaller islands and pristine snorkeling and diving areas belong to the Komodo National Park.
We organize day tours in Komodo National Park or multi-day boat tours with plenty of opportunity for snorkeling in the fantastic underwater world of Komodo National Park.
Jungle - rice fields - green landscapes
The landscape on Flores appears like a green Garden of Eden. In addition to many rice fields in the west and a sea of coconut palms in the east, many tropical crops grow here. Impenetrable jungle turns into coffee and cocoa plantations. Unique rice fields laid out like a spider's web can be admired near Ruteng. Due to the varied landscape, country tours on Flores are entertaining and interesting.
Hiking - trekking - climbing volcanoes
Due to its volcanic origin with many still active volcanoes, Flores island is very mountainous and offers trekking fans and hikers a variety of opportunities to spend their holidays actively. In addition to the famous Kelimutu volcano, climbing the Egon volcano near Maumere or Wawo Muda near Bajawa is also very popular. Experienced trekking fans can also climb the highest volcano on Flores, Gunung Ineri.
We are happy to organize individual trekking tours with experienced local guides.
Markets , hillside villages and picturesque fisherman villages
There are beautiful mountain villages around Maumere and picturesque fishing villages along the coast. You can still often see the production of the elaborate Ikat textiles on the side of the road in the surrounding villages. Traditional dances and music from East Flores are reminiscent of the sounds of the South Seas and traditional markets offer authentic exotic.
Beach-Holiday on Flores
There is a lot to see and do on the little Sunda Flores Island, which has not yet been discovered by tourists. But Flores is also ideal for those looking for peace "just" to relax. Beautiful beaches, tranquility, sunsets like in a picture book and the singing and music of the Florenese provide the rest for a South Seas feeling. The South Pacific is not just a few nautical miles away from Flores, but you can also feel it close....
